The Christian Walk - World Resistance

As Christians, we are supposed to live a lifestyle in accordance with the scriptures. Christ lived a life as a human man to save us and also provide an example for us on how to live. The Bible contains these instructions. As Christians, we are supposed to be different from other people! Our behavior should show that we love God and seek to represent Him in the world. Young people – especially – are told to live to be examples of believers. (1 Timothy 4:12)

If we asked your best friends what were the most important things to you in life, would they say one of those things is your faith in Christ? Yes ______ No _______

Here's what Christian Living comes down to: a choice of who you will be. Every day, every hour, every minute. You have a choice, and there’s no in-between. This is what we have to answer:
Joshua 24:15 "And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD."

The choice is between the gods of this world – or the true God.

Do you choose to serve The Lord? Yes ________ No __________

1. The History of Separating from the World
Read Deuteronomy 12:29-32
The Lord told the Israelites not to FOLLOW other nations' behavior. If people are doing an ABOMINATION which The Lord hates, we should not copy them.

Read Leviticus 26:3
The Lord told the Israelites to WALK IN HIS STATUTES, KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS and DO THEM.

Does God want US to follow this scripture? Yes ______ No _______

2. What Is in "the World" That Makes It So Bad??
Read 1 John 2:16-17

The Bible tells us these 3 things make up the world: LUST OF THE FLESH, LUST OF THE EYES, PRIDE OF LIFE

Think of any thing that has tempted you. Can it be classified as one of these three things? Yes ______ No _______

Think of something in a gray area - something you've not been sure that you should do. Can it be classified as one of these three things? Yes ______ No _______

If so, it's probably of the world. 1 John 2:15. Watch out! Don't be drawn into it.

3. These Bad Things Are from Satan
Read Matthew 4:1-11
Satan tempted Jesus with these things: satisfy the flesh with food (LUST OF THE FLESH), be able to prove who he was and show how great he was (PRIDE OF LIFE), riches and possessions (LUST OF THE EYES).

What are some of the ways that the tempter makes people give in to the world?

4. Satan's "ruling" the world?
Read John 12:28-33

Jesus calls Satan THE PRINCE OF THIS WORLD.
Read John 8:44
Satan was a MURDERER from the beginning. He is also an expert at LYING.

Does it make sense that satan would know how to appeal to people? If he knows how to appeal to people, do you think MANY people will follow him - or just a few? Do you think that most people will know that they have been fooled - or just a few?

5. What It Means to Be Friendly With the World
Read James 4:4
enmity – 1. The quality of being an enemy; the opposite of friendship; ill will; hatred;
If we are friends with the world then we are ENEMIES with God.

The world has a lot of appeal, and the things of the world are attractive. It easily will smother a person's love for God, and even turn them against God. It's not silly and harmless - it is serious and has deadly results. That is why you are being warned!

HOW TO GET RIGHT

6. Obey God's Words
Read John 14:15
When we obey God's commandments it is proof that we LOVE THE LORD.

** Everyone shows things to others by the way they live. Your speech, your actions, your hobbies, your interests - they all show what is important to you.

7. Watch your Mouth!
Read 2 Timothy 2:16
When we speak profanity or bad words we are becoming more UNGODLY.
Read Matthew 12:36
At Judgment Day we are going to have to GIVE AN ACCOUNT FOR THINGS WE SAID.

8. Don't Break the Law!
(This includes drinking, smoking, weed, sneaking into movies, etc.)
Read Romans 13:1-2
If we resist the law we are really resisting GOD and those who keep doing it receive DAMNATION (i.e. punishment).

Read Romans 13:13
How do people act at night? God wants us to live honestly - and act the way people act "in the day".

9. Sex Between Unmarried People Is a Sin (Yes, It Really Is)
Read 1 Corinthians 6:9-11
Fornication – sex between unmarried people; perversion
The Bible states that those who are fornicating will not INHERIT THE KINGDOM OF GOD.
What can change us from this bad outcome is being WASHED, SANCTIFIED, JUSTIFIED. (v.11)

Your outward appearance isn’t what makes you saved. The way you act doesn’t save you. Confessing JESUS as your savior is what saves you – simple belief in what He already did (for you). By placing faith in Him, your salvation is settled.

But the life you live after you get saved should reflect Him – it should show Him to others.
This world would have you live for the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh, and the pride of life – not for God. We, as believers, have the obligation to resist the world and live in a way that is true to God and honors Him.
